States of Matter: Explain density, and states and properties of matter in terms of atomic structure and activity. Apply the concept of density to solve a problem.
The connections between atomic structure and density and states of matter are clarified. Students are taught how to use calipers, then conduct the Density Blocks Lab, in which they must calculate the density of different blocks, and use that information to identify what material they're made of.

Density: Apply the concept of density to solve a problem.
Continue the Density Blocks lab

Density: Apply the concept of density to solve a problem.
Students begin the Mass Prediction Lab, in which they predict the masses of different blocks by applying the density formula.
